Air Quality Alerts Issued For Most Of Southern New Hampshire

This week, fine particle pollutant concerns are rated "moderate" to "unhealthy for sensitive people" for the entire state.

CONCORD, NH — State and federal environmental officials warn of possible unhealthy air quality due to atmospheric pollutants this week.

Air Quality Action Day alerts have been issued for Southern Hillsborough County, Merrimack County, interior Rockingham County, and the Seacoast. In its alert, the state said sensitive individuals “should limit prolonged exertion” while outside. Sensitive people include children and older adults, those with lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis, and active outdoors.

“Even healthy individuals may experience mild health effects and should consider limiting strenuous or prolonged activities,” the alert stated.

The state said particle pollution includes 2.5 microns of fine particle pollution of liquid and solid particles.

“Exposure to particle pollution is associated with numerous serious health effects,” the state said.
