Alleged Wrong Way Driver on I-93 Nearly Hits Trooper

Gregory Dumais of Hillsboro was arrested for DWI after allegedly nearly hitting a state trooper who swerved his cruiser and hit a guardrail.

CONCORD, NH — A local man was arrested and charged with drunk driving after allegedly driving south on I-93 in the northbound lane early this morning, according to New Hampshire State Police. Gregory Dumais, 28, was arrested on Oct. 15, 2016, for driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct.

At around 1:30 a.m., a state trooper was driving north on I-93 before Exit 13 when he encountered a driver in a Cadillac allegedly traveling the wrong way. The trooper “swerved to avoid a head-on collision with the vehicle,” according to Sgt. James Steinmetz of the NHSP.

The trooper crashed into the guardrail causing damage to the state police cruiser, according to a report. The trooper was later taken to the hospital and released later with minor injuries.

Dumais was was arrested and taken to the Merrimack County House of Corrections. He’s due in court on Oct. 28.
