AmeriCorps Volunteers Perform 9/11 Day of Service
Supplies donated by General Federation of Women's Clubs New Hampshire put in backpacks for children living in domestic violence shelters.
AmeriCorps Victim Assistance Program (AVAP) members are marking the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance by filling backpacks with school supplies to go to children living in the 12 domestic violence shelters located across the state, according to a press statement.
The members also wrote notes of encouragement for the kids that will be placed inside each backpack. The bags and the school supplies were donated by members of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs New Hampshire (GFWC-NH.)
In 2014, more than 200 children spent just about 18,000 nights in a domestic violence shelter. For these families who enter the emergency shelters they often leave home quickly with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
