1. 'We feel really positive': Merrimack Valley School District clears deficit, returns $1.8 million to taxpayers (concordmonitor.com) — Merrimack Valley School District, which serves parts of Concord including Penacook, has erased its budget deficit and will return about $1.8 million to local taxpayers through lower December property tax bills. After two years of freezes, staffing cuts, and tighter oversight, new financial controls and higher-than-expected state aid helped the district stabilize its budget and build a modest reserve while pledging continued fiscal vigilance.
2. Marquis' interception, fumble recovery leads Concord to rout of Central (unionleader.com) — Concord High's football team thrilled hometown fans with a 40-0 homecoming shutout of Manchester Central in their return to Memorial Field, powered by standout defender and receiver Nick Marquis. The story also explains recent safety-related changes to Memorial Field's bleachers and track, and notes that two more Crimson Tide home games are scheduled there in October.
3. Accused Arsonist Arrested After 2-State Search: Nearby News NH (patch.com) — A recent Patch roundup highlights several Concord incidents, including repeat drunken driving arrests, stalking and breach-of-bail allegations on the Heights, and other DUI and crash reports across New Hampshire. Concord readers also get links to statewide coat drives, federal benefit changes, and major court and arson cases that could affect travel, safety awareness, and available resources.
4. Bhawani Dangal shares journey in "Down the Braided River" (concordmonitor.com) — A former Concord community advocate, Bhawani Dangal, is sharing his journey from Bhutan and Nepal to teaching and supporting deaf refugees in Concord in a new biography, "Down the Braided River." Local readers can look for a Dec. 1 author event at Gibson's Bookstore and a Concord TV special, both spotlighting refugee experiences and sign-language access shaped partly in Concord.
