Homeless Coalition to Provide Training on Best Practices for Safe, Effective Client Interaction

On June 12, the NH Coalition to End Homelessness will host “Best Practices for Safe and Effective Client Interaction.”  Participants of the training learn will best practices to create a physically and emotional safe environment for clients and staff as well as important skills to personally enhance self-awareness. 

“The balance of maintaining safety and effectiveness when working with clients can be challenging for many service providers,” said Cathy Kuhn, PhD, Director of the NH Coalition to End Homelessness.  “This training will deliver tools and strategies on how to provide quality services while maintaining both the provider’s and the client’s safety.”

The trainer for the workshop is Kathleen Guarino, LMHC, Director of Training at the National Center on Family Homelessness, an affiliate of the American Institutes for Research.  Kathleen develops programs, resources, and training curricula to support organizations to implement trauma-informed practices.  Kathleen trains on traumatic stress, vicarious trauma, and trauma-informed care, and provides individualized consultation to organizations across the country to support trauma-informed programming.  Kathleen is a licensed mental health clinician with experience providing therapeutic services to children and families in residential and outpatient settings.  Kathleen received her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Boston College, and she holds a certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies from the Trauma Center in Brookline, MA.

This training is ideal for staff and supervisors who work in the fields of social, educational, and healthcare services. 

The workshop will be held on June 12 at 161 S. Beech Street, Manchester, NH.  It runs from 9:00 – 4:00 and costs $140.  Continuing education credits for social workers and licensed alcohol and drug counselors are pending approval.  Registration is required and can be done by visiting www.nhceh.org/best-practices, via email at info@nhceh.org, or calling 603-641-9441 extension 251.  The deadline to register is June 5, 2012.
