SPCA Serves Up Tom & Atticus at Dinner with the Animals

The hosted its 8th annual Dinner with the Animals at the on May 11.

The darling of the evening was Atticus M. Finch, the mini-schnauzer famous for his hiking adventures with human companion Tom Ryan, author of “following atticus.” Joining the party was also William, a 15-year-old mini-schnauzer that Atticus and Tom had adopted just a week before.

Executive Director Heather Faria announced the SPCA has raised over $750,000 in the initial phase of the capital campaign to build a new home. The public phase of the campaign will launch this summer.

Doug Sampson, CFO of the , received a standing ovation when he announced a $100,000 gift to name the lobby of the new shelter in memory of his late wife, Jennifer, a devoted dog lover.

Later in the evening, the crowd pledged an additional $23,000 towards construction of the maternity and isolation suite of the new shelter.

The dinner broke records in raising $79,000 for the animals in one night.
