Andy Sanborn Takes to the Streets ... on a Scooter

Scott Brown had his pickup truck, Andy Sanborn has his scooter. 

While Brown gained notoriety for traveling the campaign trail in his 2005 GMC Canyon pickup during his successful U.S. Senate bid over Martha Coakley in the 2010 Massachusetts special election for Ted Kennedy's long-time seat, Sanborn is taking a similarly unique approach.

Sanborn, who , is campaigning for re-election to New Hampshire State Senate, this time in the recently , which includes Bedford.

He's taken to the streets, going door-to-door on a motorized scooter to introduce himself to more than 5,000 potential voters prior to the Sept. 11 primary.

In fact, Sanborn said he's already reached 1,300 households on the campaign trail.

"From Bedford to Richmond, residents tell me that I am the first politician to ever stand at their door step and introduce myself," said Sanborn. "They have been incredibly appreciative of my effort and supportive of my candidacy because they know that I am out there every day, working for their vote. To me, it is so important to actually meet someone face to face and have a direct conversation. The scooters are efficient, economical, and a lot of fun, and they are enabling us to meet many more people than we would be able to traveling by foot or car."

Sanborn's campaign literature includes his personal cell phone number and email address so voters can reach him directly.

"One of the reasons I ran for office in the first place was because I thought our representatives in Concord had lost touch with their constituents," he added. "I want the citizens of the 9th District to know that, as their state senator, I will be accountable and accessible to them, and that if they need to reach me for any reason, they can."

The new Senate District 9 includes 14 towns: Bedford, Dublin, Fitzwilliam, Greenfield, Hancock, Jaffrey, Lyndeborough, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Peterborough, Richmond, Sharon, Temple, and Troy.
