Another Thunderstorm Watch Issued For NH

​Breaking: Stormy weather is possible this afternoon according to the National Weather Service, with wind gusts as high as 60 mph.

GRAY, ME — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the state of New Hampshire. The alert was issued at 10:50 a.m. on July 8, 2017, and covers Merrimack, Hillsborough, and Rockingham Counties. According to forecasters, “there is a marginal risk for a severe thunderstorms across New Hampshire and western Maine through this evening … some storms may produce hail, damaging winds, and very heavy rainfall.”

In some of the strongest storm areas, isolated gusts could reach between 40 and 60 mphs.

“Despite the potential for localized wind damage, the need for a severe thunderstorm watch is uncertain/reserved due to both the relatively confined coverage and expected intensity of the stronger storms,” according to the alert.

Storms are expected to start in the western and central parts of the state – Amherst, Milford, Merrimack, and Nashua, and Concord, Bedford, and Londonderry – around 2 p.m., and around 3 p.m. in the eastern part of the state – Salem, Windham, Exeter, Hampton, North Hampton, and Portsmouth. Storms are expected to last through 7 or 8 p.m., according to forecasters.

Next week, more storms are expected.

“Scattered thunderstorms will develop Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west,” according to today’s alert. “Some storms may produce damaging winds and small hail.”
