CRIME LOG: Alleged Assaulter Thinks He's McGyver
The following information was supplied by the Concord Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

- Joseph H. Riley, 21, of Concord, was arrested at 12:13 a.m. on April 22, on two counts of simple assault (personal weapons and other). Officers were dispatched to Washington Street for a report of a man hitting his sister. When officers arrived, one asked the man his name and he reportedly said, “Paul Bunyan.” The officer also alleged that he was "extremely intoxicated." One of the officers told another officer that he had been at the residence earlier but cleared the scene without any problems. Another officer spoke to the sister who alleged that there were some minor altercations with Riley while he was intoxicated but she told him to go to bed. He then allegedly pushed her in the chest and she fell into a wall. Riley was later arrested. A spit mask and leg hobbles were reportedly put on Riley to control him, “due to the level of agitating and being uncooperative.” When asked for his last name during booking, Riley reportedly said, “MacGyver.” The officer stated that during all of his interaction with Riley, he allegedly had a number of mood swings, going from angry to silly. Riley refused bail and was arraigned remotely from bail.
- Craig A. Cegalis, 42, of Concord, was arrested at 11:58 a.m. on April 22, on a theft charge. An officer was called to Market Basket for a theft where a suspect at the store had been detained. An employee alleged that Cegalis had stolen a bottle of pure vanilla extract valued at $8.99. He said he watched the video surveillance and saw Cegalis walking around the store and later, allegedly concealed the vanilla in his jacket. Cegalis then left the store and the employee confronted him outside and asked him to return to the store. After questioning Cegalis, the officer arrested him. A probation officer had Cegalis put on a no release hold and he was arraigned remotely.
- Timothy J. Byron, 24, of Concord, was arrested at 12:32 a.m. on May 3, on two counts of criminal mischief (vandalism). Officers were called to North State Street for a domestic disturbance. According to a report, Byron reportedly told the officers that he and his girlfriend were arguing but nothing physical happened. One officer checked the apartment out while another spoke to Byron. Byron allegedly stated that he "beat the crap" out of the door. The officer observed his right hand had blood on it. One of the officers reported that Byron broken both his and his girlfriend’s cellphones. The officer then spoke to the girlfriend who was in the with their daughter and was crying. The officer reported seeing a bedroom door that had multiple holes in it. There was also a steak knife on the floor. There was also a silver grinder and small amount of green vegetable manner consistent with marijuana on a counter, the officer alleged. The woman stated that the two were having an argument. She alleged that after the phones were thrown by Byron, he punched the door. Later, Byron was arrested and released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail. He had an arraignment date on June 3. A witness allegedly stated that she heard a woman say, “Let go of me” at least two times, heard some other noises, got nervous and called police, according to the report.
- James L. Liimatainen, 26, of Concord, was arrested at 1:32 a.m. on May 3, and charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest or detention, possession of controlled drugs, and possession of drugs. An officer was heading northbound on North Main Street approaching the intersection with Storrs Street when a red Ford Ranger pickup 1993 approached. The pick up did not seem to be slowing down, the officer wrote. The truck reportedly suddenly hit the brakes and came to a stop well past the stop line, partially in the right of the northbound lane. The vehicle make right-hand turn onto North Main Street, the officer pulled the car over. The vehicle pulled to the right hand side of the road but did not stop for approximately 150 feet. The truck can finally stopped and Liimatainen, the driver, had his license and registration in hand when the officer approached. The officer alleged that there was “a strong odor of an alcohol beverage coming from the vehicle.” Liimatainen reportedly said he was coming from a friend’s house and that it was his girlfriend who had been drinking. A field sobriety test was requested but Liimatainen said he did not want to take one and just wanted to go home. He kept repeating that he wanted to go home, the officer reported. Later, Liimatainen was arrested. While trying to take him into custody, the officer alleged that Liimatainen pulled away and stiffened his arm. The officer told him to quit resisting a number of times and he allegedly continued to try to pull his arms away. Eventually, the officer was able to handcuff Liimatainen. The officer allegedly later found marijuana and a smoking pipe. Liimatainen refused bail and also received a summons for a stop sign violation.
- Tyler James Grace, 33, of Concord, was arrested at 1:27 p.m. on May 4, on two counts of criminal mischief (vandalism). Officers were called you Loudon Road for report of domestic disturbance. A woman called police to report the boyfriend was out of control and breaking things in the home. While en route, dispatch reported that the man, later identified as Grace, had left the home. Officers arrived and make contact with the caller who told police that because wife was out of control everything over the house. They had a verbal argument he became aggressive and started throwing and breaking various items. The woman stated that he had never acted that way with her or her child before. The woman stated that Grace was on his way to a birthday party at his brothers on Hoit Road and left in a pickup truck. The officer observed a lamp and a pile of debris on the floor, liquid on the floor, and a dent on a Dodge Avenger. Another witness alleged that Grace tried to throw the lamp but realized that it was plugged in, and dropped it on the floor instead. Grace was waving his arms all over the place knocking various items from the nightstand, the witness alleged, Including a bottle of fragrance. Officers went to Hoit Road to try and make contact with Grace. They were advised that he was not there. But 10 minutes later he arrived, the officer reported. Officers made contact with him and later, he was arrested. He was released $4,000 personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on June 10.
- Nicole Kimball, 20, of Land O’ Lakes, Fla., was arrested at 1:10 a.m. on May 18, and charged with two counts of simple assault (personal weapons), unlawful possession of alcohol, and criminal mischief (vandalism). Officers were called to a home near the intersection of Pembroke Road and Roy Street for a domestic disturbance. Dispatch reported that a woman was intoxicated and allegedly gave her boyfriend a black eye. An officer approached Kimball, who was talking on a cell phone, and allegedly seemed confused, was mumbling, with slurred speech. Kimball was “very unstable on her feet” and the officer could detect alcohol on her. The man at the home, the officer observed, had a damaged right eye with a broken blood vessel. The man alleged that he and Kimball had reportedly separated and she had flown back from Florida to see him this week. The two were drinking at The Draft and later, began to argue over a woman he had been intimately involved with. When they got home, the arguing reportedly continued with the man alleging that Kimball had kicked a fan at him and punched him so he called 911. The officers spoke to Kimball and she reiterated much of the same story but later, interjected that her ex had put his hands on her, and pointed to a red mark on her collar bone. Officers wrote that based on the statements, the man pushed Kimball away during the altercation. Kimball was arrested and allegedly rude during the booking process. Police later destroyed a fake ID allegedly in her possession. She was later taken into protective custody and transported to Concord Hospital for medical evaluation. She was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on June 24.
- Jason T. Kenyon, 31, of Derry, was arrested at 12:35 a.m. on May 19, on a default or breach of bail conditions charge. Officers were sent to the intersection of Washington and Village streets for a report of two individuals who were reportedly intoxicated and yelling the name of “Desiree.” Officers found the individuals between two Washington Street homes (9 and 11) and could hear someone “speaking loudly.” As the officers approached, a woman reportedly stated, “and now the cops are here.” The officers spoke to one of the men, Kenyon, whose “eyes were extremely bloodshot and glassy” and “was having trouble standing.” Kenyon, the officer alleged, was having “wild mood swings,” he was polite at one time and then crying and angry at another time. Kenyon later allegedly told officers he had about six beers. Dispatch later revealed that Kenyon was out on bail and part of his bail conditions was to not drink alcohol. He was then taken into custody. While in the cell, an officer alleged that Kenyon continued to be “unruly” and was spitting, drooling, and would pull down his pants. A Concord Fire and Rescue team was called in to make a medical evaluation and he was cleared. Later, he was transported to Merrimack County House of Corrections and arraigned on May 20.
- Alexander Simonds, 19, of Concord, received a summons at 9:20 p.m. on May 19, on a reckless operation charge. An officer alleged that Simonds was speeding on Manchester Street before turning onto Crestwood Drive. As he was about to make the turn, Simonds “pulled the emergency brake in his vehicle causing the vehicle to slide sideways as it crossed the yellow line on Manchester Street,” the officer alleged. He was cited and is due in court on July 1.
- Patricia R. Van Nest, 47, of Concord, was arrested at 9:43 p.m. on May 21, and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated second offense, and two counts of driving while intoxicated. While traveling eastbound on Capitol Street and making a right onto North Main, an officer reported observing a vehicle coming within feet of striking an elderly woman in a crosswalk. The officer pulled the vehicle over near Capitol Plaza Associates on North Main Street. The driver, Van Nest, was reportedly denied seeing anyone in the crosswalk. During interaction with officers, Van Nest allegedly portrayed “signs of intoxication” including slurred speech and glossy bloodshot eyes. Van Nest though denied drinking and was reportedly sarcastic during the interaction with the officer. The officer alleged, “I could smell the strong scent of an alcoholic beverage coming from Van Nest’s breath.” After a field sobriety test, Van Nest was arrested. During a records search, the officer reported that Van Nest was convicted of DWI on Aug. 12, 2011. Van Nest was also cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. She was later released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on June 10.
- Brian Joseph Doyle, 22, a homeless man now located in Concord, was arrested at 9:15 p.m. on May 22, on a warrant. Officers were dispatched to the area of the I-393 overpass between NHTI and C.A.V.E.S. on Fort Eddy Road to speak to people who were reportedly living under the bridge. One, Doyle, had an outstanding warrant from Hillsborough District Court on a fraudulent use of a credit card charge. He was taken into custody and released to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department.
- Ashley Marie Schultz, 32, of Franklin, was arrested at 9 p.m. on March 24, on a felony theft by unauthorized taking or transfer charge. The charge stemmed from an alleged incident on Summer Street involving a silver lock box filled with medication. An officer picked up Schultz from Franklin Police who had her in custody on the warrant. The report also stated that Schultz had two prior felony convictions. She was released on personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on April 29.
