Retired Concord Firefighter Honored

Lt. Gary French spent 28 years on the force.

The honored retired Lt. Gary French at its April 9, monthly meeting.

Mayor read a resolution honoring French saying he “contributed substantially to the public safety and well being of the citizens of Concord and has left a legacy that will benefit several generations to come.”

French worked for 28 years with the department, starting in 1983, as a firefighter, company inspector, and lieutenant. He also received many commendations and letters of thanks. French was named Concord Fire Fighter of the Year in 1998.

French thanked the councilors for the resolution and said he had just returned from a recent trip and now, needed to find something else to do with his time “other than rushing into burning buildings,” to laughs from both councilors and the audience in attendance.
