Autopsies Confirm Elderly Couple Murder-Suicide In New London

CONCORD, NH — A state medical examiner has confirmed the deaths of an elderly couple in New London this week was a murder-suicide case.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the owner of the home, Douglas Lyon of Shaker Street, called police.

They found Lyon, 78, dead outside his home when they arrived. Peggy Brown, 73, was found dead inside the home, Michael Garrity, the director of communications for the attorney general’s office, said.

On Wednesday, New Hampshire Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg performed autopsies on Lyon and Brown.

Weinberg determined Brown’s cause of death was three gunshot wounds, and her manner of death was a homicide. Lyon’s cause of death was a single gunshot wound ruled a suicide.

“Although the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident remains active and ongoing, based on evidence gathered to date, it has been determined that Douglas Lyon shot and killed Peggy Brown and then shot and killed himself,” Garrity said. “No additional information is expected to be released at this time.”
