BENTON, NH — A woman from Massachusetts was assisted while hiking in New Hampshire on Sunday.

New Hampshire Fish & Game conservation officers were informed about an injured hiker around 2 p.m. on the Gorge Brook Trail on Mount Moosilauke. The hiker, Diana Stroud, 33, of Belmont, MA, was on the ridge loop on the mountain when she suffered a lower leg injury. The injury, Christopher McKee, a conservation officer, said, prevented her from being able to hike down the mountain on her own. Officers and members of the PEMI Valley Search and Rescue Team were then sent to the mountain, he said.

“Stroud was 2.75 miles up the Gorge Brook Trail from the nearest road,” McKee said. “Rescuers hiked up to Stroud, reaching her location at 4 p.m. Once there were enough rescuers, Stroud was carried down the Gorge Brook Trail arriving at the Dartmouth College Ravine Lodge at 7:50 p.m.”

Stroud, he said, was well prepared for a day hike.

McKee said all hikers should have the 10 essential items when going out for a day hike and be prepared to spend longer in case of an emergency.
