'Boeing Boeing' Lands at the Audi
Community Players of Concord offer comic farce this weekend.
Looking for something special to do this weekend, post-Valentine’s Day? How about a madcap farce?
The Community Players of Concord present “Boeing Boeing,” a European comedy about an architect in Paris who, with the help of an old friend from Wisconsin and a sarcastic maid, juggles three fiancées who happen to be flight attendants, work on separate schedules and know nothing about each other.
The hilarity ensues, said Jim Webber, the director of the production.

“Comedy’s tricky,” Webber said, “it’s definitely as challenge compared to a drama, but so much of it is technical … it’s not so much the depth of the characters as it is props and doorways and costumes and things.”
“Boeing Boeing” has a small cast of mostly veterans to the Players who have had a lot of experience performing, he said, adding that more than 30 people tried out for the six parts.

Webber said it was great to be doing a comedy in the winter, to lighten things up a bit and be silly and fun. He said it was also “non-PC” with some ethnic stereotypes and maybe even a bit sexist. Although, he noted, the women all got what they really wanted in the end while the guys, who think they are in charge, are really following the women’s lead. Webber also designed and produced the sets.
“It’s a great show,” he said. “It’s very funny, it’s pure entertainment. Any audience will enjoy it.”
The cast includes Chris Demers as “Robert”, Steve Lajoie as “Bernard” and Paula Demers as “Berthe,” the maid. The three lovely ladies of the skies are played by Kathy Aiello (as “Gretchen” from Germany), Cheri Birch (as “Gloria” from Texas) and Katherine Proulx (as “Gabriella” from Italy). With costumes by Joan Vick, lighting by Wallace Pineault and stage management by Barbara Woodman, co-producers Allwynne Fine, David Preece and Kevin Belval.
Performances are Friday, Feb. 15, and Saturday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. Visit communityplayersofconcord.com for more information.
