Bow High School Moves On To Second Round of Granite State Challenge

School prevailed against Portsmouth Christian Academy.

In this week’s match of high school students’ smarts, Bow High School prevailed over Portsmouth Christian Academy by a score of 245 to 210 in the first round of Granite State Challenge. Bow gained an early lead in the competitive match, and held on to it throughout.

The Bow Falcons were represented by captain Jack Sheffer, Anna Morrison, Sean Fraser, and Conner Lorenz, and were coached by Michelle Hlavaz. The Portsmouth Christian Eagles were represented by captain Connor Foley, Nate Foster, Vibhav Jha, and Riley Sipp, and were coached by Donna Capern and Dr. Raymond Gamble.

“We played a difficult opponent,” said Bow’s coach Michelle Hlavaz. “They were a strong team and we enjoyed the match. And we’ll continue to practice and prepare for the next round.”

Bow High School now advances to the second round of Granite State Challenge. The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights. And, for a third year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State “Governor’s Cup” match between the winners of the Granite State Super Challenge and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show.

New Hampshire’s top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play Granite State Challenge. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts - along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions; co-host Lori Warriner gets the behind-the-scenes story from each team.
