Is it Now George Bald vs the Local Government Center?

Interesting pieces in the Concord Monitor about the Local Government Center (LGC) by Ben Leubsdorf and their editorial staff.

In his article, Leubsdorf reports that George Bald stated the LGC should admit their mistakes and find a way to work with the regulators. In this case the Bureau of Securities Regulations (BSR) in the Secretary of States office.

What's really interesting is that it appears Bald has spoken with the Monitor before he has approached the LGC's board of directors. And in the Monitor’s most recent editorial, they praise Bald for being forthright and urging the LGC Board of Directors to find a solution with the BSR. 

I wrote a few weeks ago that I felt that the appointment of Bald was window dressing and not a serious attempt by the LGC to change the culture of their organization. It appears that I may have misread the tea leaves. If in fact Bald is serious about changing the way the LGC does business, it will be a breath of fresh air in a fight that has grown stale and acrid. 

But there is one point that Bald makes that I will take issue with: When he stated that he felt the LGC’s mistakes were motivated by a desire to provide a better product. After listening to John Andrews testify, it is clear to me, that the motivation to register (illegally) as an LLC and substantially increase their reserves (surplus that should have been returned) was motivated by revenge. Andrews was upset that a former LGC employee was now competing against them and he was willing to do anything to insure that the LGC would retain their lead in providing workers comp insurance to local communities.

While Bald feels the Board of LGC acted altruistically, the record clearly refutes this premise. 

Will the the LGC board acquiesce to Bald or will they continue to go screaming and kicking all the way to the New Hampshire Supreme Court. Risking losing more of your money to defend indefensible positions.   

And the $64,000 question; does the LGC board now rue the day they hired Bald as acting executive director or will they chart a new course and allow reality to guide their decisions.
