Thanks Dave

One voice can make a difference

I had the opportunity to meet David Lang yesterday. For those of you who haven't been following the Local Government Center's hearing, Dave was the impetus that got the ball rolling. Lang was a Hampton firefighter for 30 years and he is currently president of the New Hampshire Professional Fire Fighters Association. Dave was also a board member of the Local Government Center for seven years before resigning because of his concerns relating to the LGC's practices that led to the Bureau of Security Regulations charges against the LGC.

It is important to remember that it was Lang who first filed the freedom of information request that led to the information that made the case against the LGC possible. It isn't an overstatement to say that without Dave's actions there would be no case, no determination of culpability and no settlement. The members of the LGC's Health and Liability Trusts would not be returning any monies to their members without the actions of David Lang.

So let us all remember that when you doubt the power of one, that we remember David Lang. One person can make a difference. One vote does matter. One voice can resound as loud as a chorus. The state of New Hampshire owes Lange a huge debt of gratitude for exposing practices at the LGC (the largest risk pool of it's kind in the U.S.) that impacted over 100 municipalities and government entities and tens of thousands of individuals. Thanks Dave.
