Update from Japan's International Peace Conference

80 Years Later: The Legacy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with Peace Action's Lilly Dragnev

Lilly Dragnev has just returned from the International Peace Conference in Japan --- where she was hosted by the Japan Congress Against A and H-Bombs (GENSUIKIN) --- and will share her experiences with us. Peace Action, formed in 1957, emerged from the Sane/Freeze movement and maintains its focus on nuclear policy and nuclear weapons. It is a participating NGO at recent TPNW UN events and has regularly been represented at the International Peace Conference in Japan over the years. GENSUIKIN was established in 1965, and it is one of the largest anti-nuclear and peace organizations in Japan. GENSUIKIN has local organizations as members, consisting of labor unions, women’s organizations, youth organizations and civil society groups in all 47 prefectures of Japan. Eight decades after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Lilly and those at the International Peace Conference worked to continue the stalled efforts for nuclear weapons abolition. Liliana Dragnev is currently the National Engagement and Campaigns Director at Peace Action with experience in research, evaluation, and project coordination in various international organizations such as Euro Atlantic Diplomacy Society and Montessori Model UN. Liliana also has a background in political science, anthropology, and international studies.
