East Side Drive & West Sugarball Road

Tucked at the corner of East Side Drive and West Sugarball Road stands a modest monument that many longtime residents have passed without notice. Yet this site marks a defining moment in the region’s history: the first recorded religious service in central New Hampshire, held on May 15, 1726.
That early gathering laid the foundation for a vibrant and enduring faith community. Six Concord congregations trace their origins directly to that pioneering service: First Congregational Church—founded by those who led the original gathering—and five additional congregations established as the city grew: The Unitarian Universalist Church of Concord (1827), West Congregational Church (1833), South Congregational Church (1837), East Congregational Church (1842), and Immanuel Community Church (1900).
The monument’s location between the two campuses of Havenwood-Heritage Heights is especially fitting. Founded by members of these congregations and affiliated with the New&nbsp; Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ, Havenwood-Heritage Heights also shares in this historic lineage, connecting past and present through a common spiritual heritage.
On May 15 at 1:30 PM, members of Concord’s faith community will gather at the monument for a brief commemorative service marking the 300th anniversary of that first worship gathering. The service will be led by Rev. Emilia Halstead of First Congregational Church, with music provided by the Memorial Bells of South Congregational Church.
All are welcome to attend.
Please note: the site is not handicapped accessible, and there is no on-site parking. Attendees should plan to park nearby and walk to the monument. Insect repellent is recommended.

Student recitals are part of the Concord Community Music School’s multi-level curriculum for private lesson students. These frequent performance opportunities help our students perform more easily, broaden their musical skills, and help them make new musical friends.
Recitals to be held at 6 &amp; 7PM. Each lasts one hour.
These events will be held in our historic Recital Hall. They are free of charge and open to the public. Donations are appreciated.

The night honors two New England music legends on their birthdays while supporting a local Veterans organization: James Montgomery (James Montgomery Band, Johnny Winter) and Danny “Ace on the Bass” Klein, co‑founding member of the J. Geils Band.
Montgomery brings decades of blues‑soaked rock and marathon, crowd‑lifting performances; Klein delivers the deep, irresistible groove that powered arenas worldwide. Expect special guests, big moments, and a room‑shaking party atmosphere.
Jon Butcher (Jon Butcher Axis; Experience Hendrix) adds guitar fireworks—an influential Boston player who has opened for Def Leppard, Rush, and the Scorpions. Also joining is local standout Johnny A., known for work with Peter Wolf’s band and the Yardbirds, plus acclaimed projects including From A. to Beatles and Beck‑Ola.
They’re joined by Bruce Marshall (Toy Caldwell Band; Montgomery &amp; Marshall) and Andrew “AC” Clark (John Cafferty &amp; the Beaver Brown Band), with more surprise sit‑ins along the way.
