Peace and Justice Conversations: U.S. Militarism and Racism

Women United Against Genocide (WUAG) is a grassroots advocacy group focusing on the intersection of patriarchy, poverty, racism and human rights abuses.  They bring forward the voices and leadership of Black, Brown and Indigenous women, while organizing intersectional campaigns on issues like missing and murdered women, immigrant rights, defending Palestine and opposing international human rights abuses, honoring victims of U.S. police violence and Stop Cop City.  They will join us to talk about how U.S. militarism is connected to racism, and other aspects of their work.  

Flor Saldivar of Women United Against Genocide and Justice for Migrant Families, is an organizer defending immigrant and refugee rights and standing against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the brutal raids on our communities. She works on legal matters and also in the community to unite everyone in the fight for justice. As someone born in Mexico who came to the country and lived as an undocumented youth, she knows well the horrific conditions and repression of the peoples in the U.S. and abroad. In her work she links the defense of rights with opposing U.S. wars and crimes and the militarization of life.

Kathleen Chandler of Women United Against Genocide, is a lifetime organizer for peace, justice, equality and people's democracy and empowerment. She is active in the anti-war movement, against racist police killings, and for the rights to education and healthcare. She participated in the 1963 March on Washington, in the first demonstrations opposing the war against Viet Nam in Washington, DC.  Today she calls for a pro-social, anti-war government and continues to organize among workers, women and youth for the rights of all, in the U.S. and abroad.
