Jazz Sanctuary is a monthly, music-centered gathering that brings together live jazz, reflection, and community in a welcoming setting for people of all faiths and none.
This month’s theme, “Decolonizing the Church,” invites us to consider how religious communities can challenge exclusion, rethink inherited traditions, and create spaces where everyone belongs. Reverends Renée Rouse and Emilia Halstead will lead a presentation on the theme, accompanied by music that includes Imagine, What’s Going On, A Change Is Gonna Come, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and We Shall Overcome.
About the photo: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mathew Ahmann (wearing glasses), a Catholic civil rights leader, at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. The photograph reflects the ongoing struggle for equality and inclusion that resonates with this month’s theme.
