Canterbury Shaker Village Hosts Village Rising on Aug. 15
A day of exploration, inspiration and creativity features a new exhibit, special programs and activities.

Canterbury Shaker Village will host Village Rising, a day of exploration, inspiration and creativity, on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The day-long special event, according to a press statement, celebrates the modern impact of the Shaker legacy through a new installation of the mixed media exhibit, Shaker Traditions: Contemporary Translations, special tours and programs. All activities are included with regular museum admission.
The 2015 installation of the original mixed media exhibit, Shaker Traditions: Contemporary Translations, will be unveiled during Village Rising. The exhibit showcases the many ways the Shaker legacy has inspired visitors, professional artists and creative citizens. The exhibit is located in the Carriage House and will remain on display through December 2015. A Gallery Walk with Executive Director and exhibit curator, Funi Burdick will take place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a Meet the Artists Reception will take place from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Special tours and programs will be offered including, “Relationship with the Land,” a walking tour with Lauren Chase-Rowell; “Shaker-inspired Baking,” an audience-style cooking demonstration with Chef Todd Sweet, Executive Chef of University of New Hampshire’s Philbrook Dining Hall; a Historic Preservation Village Tour with Arron Sturgis of Preservation Timber Framing Inc., and Make Your Own Natural Bug Spray and Weeding Strategies in Shaker Organic Garden with Garden Manager, Stacey Cooper.
Other upcoming events at Canterbury Shaker Village include the Let Freedom Ring Tour on Aug. 28; Canterbury Artisan Festival on Sept. 12; Vintage Car Show on Oct. 17; and Ghost Encounters on Oct. 24. To view the complete 2015 calendar of events and workshops visit shakers.org.
