Canterbury Shaker Village Opens May 16

New galleries and exhibits in historic Dwelling House highlight of 2015 visitor experience.

Canterbury Shaker Village, a National Historic Landmark and museum, will open to visitors on Saturday, May 16, 2015, according to a press statement.

The museum will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 24, 2015, for guided and self-guided tours. For the first time, all four floors of the 1793 Dwelling House will be open for self-guided tours. Ten new galleries throughout this historic building feature exhibits about the Shakers’ 200-year legacy of simple living, innovative design and communal living.

Canterbury Shaker Village members are invited to celebrate the start of the new season on Tuesday, May 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at a Spring Members’ Reception. Members will have a chance to tour the new galleries, exhibits and reading room in the historic Dwelling House. The Spring Reception is also an opportunity to learn more about the new agricultural partnership between Canterbury Shaker Village and the Concord Food Co-op and sample food from the Co-op’s Celery Stick Café. Pre-registration is required.
