They started an investigation into the incident and found that the man who was accused, Hardy, was a registered sex offender. According to online reports, he was adjudicated in May 1983, for felonious sexual assault. The victim was reportedly 13 or older but under 16, with an age difference of more than three years.

“Numerous interviews were conducted and it was determined there was probably cause to arrest Hardy on two counts of simple assault, one from 2008 and one from 2010,” according to Sgt. Ronald Taylor. “The victims were a female Canterbury town employee and a female town volunteer.”
