Cattle Corralled To Safety At Boscawen Farm After Barn Roof Collapse
Video: Firefighters rescue several animals after a barn roof at Highway View Farm on River Road collapsed on Friday afternoon.
BOSCAWEN, NH — Capitol region firefighters had their hands full corralling cows after a partial roof collapse at a farm on Friday afternoon.
Around 5:15 p.m., Boscawen and Concord firefighters, as well as the Penacook Rescue team, were sent to the Highway View Farm on River Road for a report of a partial barn collapse. The first arriving fire commander reported half the building had collapsed. The commander said they would check the building to ensure no personnel were inside.
A few minutes later, they confirmed that animals were trapped inside, but no workers were. A re-tone was issued so that more firefighters could come to the scene to assist in rescuing the animals.

At 5:30 p.m., the commander requested Concord Tower 1 to come to the scene to assist with struts.
Firefighters then began attempting to move the cattle away from the collapsed area. They surmised they would need to move them out of the building after the tower engine arrived. The commander also said the firefighters needed to place sand on the ground to keep the cattle from falling outside the building.

The Boscawen Highway Department arrived later to assist with the sanding.
Around 6 p.m., firefighters entered the barn to inspect the damage.
“We’re going in to see what we got,” the commander said.
After about 15 minutes, the commander said they believed the cows could be corralled to the safe part of the building.
Bow firefighters were requested to bring the department’s portable light tower at 6:30 p.m.
All but one animal were removed from the barn around 7:15 p.m. and the structure was stabilized.
