CONCORD, NH — The city of Concord has begun removing the football bleachers and part of the baseball bleachers at Memorial Field after the City Council approved the project at its April 2026 meeting.

The work is being done by Milestone Engineering.

In late fall 2025, the city retained The H.L. Turner Group to complete a structural evaluation of the Memorial Field football grandstands, visitor bleachers, press box, and the Doane Diamond baseball bleachers. The firm found age-related wear, condition problems, and numerous code deficiencies during the assessment.

Based on that review, the H.L. Turner Group recommended that the main football grandstand, visitor bleachers, and press box be removed from service until replacement facilities can be built, according to the city. The evaluation also found the overall baseball bleachers remain in fair condition, but the superstructure behind home plate needs to be removed until new foundations can be installed.

The city said it will preserve and store the reusable portions of the baseball seating on-site for future use. The visible structural deterioration, including corrosion, material fatigue, and potential instability, created what was described as an elevated risk of injury to spectators. Continued use of the existing structures could expose the city to significant liability and risk ratings, according to the city. .

The removal project is expected to take about five weeks.

The city said a new storage shed will be installed at the varsity football field to serve as a temporary press box. The structure will house the public address system equipment and provide electrical service for operating the football field lights.
