CONCORD, NH — The city has finalized contractual agreements with a new cable and Internet service provider to offer a second option to Concord residents.

Breezeline of Quincy, Massachusetts, a subsidiary of Cogeco Communications, is the eighth largest cable operator in the United States. Breezeline and the city began negotiating in September and after a public hearing and approval by the Concord City Council, came to an agreement that has now been officially finalized.

“The citizens of Concord have been requesting additional options for cable television for some time,” City Manager Tom Aspell said. “This agreement gives the community another choice for their cable television services and creates competition within the market.”

Earlier this month, the company, formerly known as Atlantic Broadband, rebranded itself with the new name after acquiring systems in Ohio, and expanding in the Granite State and West Virginia, to describe, “more accurately, its expanded geographical reach, as well as new service offerings and its commitment to customer care,” according to Broadband Communities Magazine.

One of the services being offered by Breezeline will be a new Stream TV service, a cloud-based system that allows for multi-device viewing both in and out of the home via Internet Protocol TV technology. A number of cable and Internet companies offer a similar service that allows customers to record programs for future viewing or stream programming from tablets, phones, or computers while away from home.

The Breezeline Stream TV app is available on Apple App and Google Play stores.

Fran Bradley, the director of government affairs for Breezeline, said the company was grateful the franchise application was approved by the city so they could bring another choice to residents and businesses.

“We look forward to bringing this community Breezeline Fiber Internet with symmetrical speeds for the very first time, as well as Breezeline Stream TV and best-in-class voice products,” she said.

Aspell said services were expected to be available to residents in the spring.

Breezeline started in 2004 by acquiring "nonstrategic regions from Charter Communications," according to Wikipedia, as well as MetroCast, a company that had been doing business in New Hampshire for many years before being acquired. Breezeline serves about 160,000 customers in New Hampshire.

The city of Concord is also in the middle of a 10-year agreement with Comcast which runs through April 2026.
