In Penacook, residents can park at the Canal Street Municipal Parking Lot at the intersection of Village and Canal streets. This lot is posted for no overnight parking, but the regulation is suspended during citywide winter parking bans to assist Penacook residents. The city asked Penacook residents to park only in the public spaces on the south side of the lot along Canal Street.
Unlike suspicions by some residents, the city does not derive any revenue from towing fees.
During the 2022-2023 winter season, towing fees were $150, which included 24 hours of storage of the towed vehicle. Additional fees are applied if vehicles are left for more than 24 hours. Towing companies hired by the city on a rotating basis.
There were four citywide parking bans for the 2021-2022 season bans and five downtown snow removal parking bans. During that time, 161 vehicles were towed. According to the city, about $30,000 in parking citations were billed due to vehicles not being removed.
