CONCORD, NH — The city of Concord has canceled the annual 4th of July fireworks display and pools will remain closed for the summer due to the new coronavirus.

The city made the announcement Monday. Concord Parks & Recreation staffers are "working hard to update our summer plans to make sure we can offer the safest facilities and best programming possible," said Stefanie Breton, the city's public information officer. The department is following Gov. Chris Sununu's Stay-At-Home 2.0 updates and working with administration to begin reopening and offering some services.

"Summer will look different however we are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon," she added.

Along with pools being closed this summer and the fireworks being canceled, three Nevers Band concerts slated for June have also been canceled. Summer day camps, however, will reopen on June 22. Online registration for those camps have opened and can be booked online here.

The department asked all residents to continue to follow social distancing while using parks and open spaces, and continue to carry in and carry out trash, "as maintenance staffing levels have been reduced." Playgrounds remain closed as well.
