CONCORD, NH — Capitol Region firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own on Saturday due to a brief illness.

Christopher “CJ” Girard, 39, of Bow, died on Saturday night after an illness. According to the department, he worked in Concord for seven years after serving in Londonderry and Pease International Airport. Girard was a husband and father of two children.

“CJ took immense pride in being on the top of his game,” the department said on Facebook. “Whether it be his passion for the truck and joining the hazmat team like his father, or honing his EMS skills, or testing the hypothesis of the fastest and most efficient rescue techniques, he was constantly working on being the best fireman he could be and held his peers to the same standard.”

Bow and Concord police as well as Bow fire, New Hampshire State Police, and the state’s medical examiner’s office, were thanked for their “professionalism and commitment” in allowing the union and department to honor and escort Girard from his home.

Nearly $35,000 has been raised via a Meal Train effort for the family from almost 300 people.
