Teams spent several hours at the recycling plant and incinerator site on Whitney Road this morning.

CONCORD, NH - Concord Fire and Rescue teams were sent to the Wheelabrator Concord incinerator facility at 11 Whitney Road in Concord at just before 3 a.m. this morning for a fire.

According to online alerts, the fire was first reported to be a structure fire and then, a trash fire in a storage area.

Firefighters, according to Chief Dan Andrus, found a “deep seated trash fire” and crews spent “several hours” tackling it.

“The first crew was on the scene seven minutes later reporting smoke from the structure,” Andrus said in an email. “Wheelabrator processes solid waste from several area municipalities and the fire was located in a large pile of waste. Structural damage was minimal, but crews were rotated through the area as a crane moved the pile to get access to the burning material.”

Andrus said there were no injuries and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

It has the capacity to produce about 14,000 kilowatts of power and can process nearly 500 tons of trash per day.
