Concord Firefighters Battle Rubble Fire At Schnitzer’s
Residents reported black smoke around Exit 12 on Interstate 93 — which lead firefighters and police to Sandquist Street on Saturday.
CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams as well as police were sent to Sandquist Street for a fire at a business.
Before 1:30 p.m., capital region fire dispatch and police dispatch began receiving calls about black smoke coming from the area of Exit 12 and Exit 13, as well as Basin and Hall streets. Police and firefighters searched the area, and the fire was found, coming from junk burning at Schnitzer’s Northeast on Sandquist Street.
More firefighters were sent to the area to assist the first engine company. Dispatch said firefighters would need to cut the locks to gain access to the property.

“We have quite an extensive pile of debris burning,” the first arriving firefighter said, confirming they had gained access to the business compound.
Command requested a working fire designation, sending more firefighters to the scene. Employees also arrived later to assist in moving the debris around so firefighters could get to the materials that were on fire.

Hooksett firefighters and the Tri-Town Ambulance were also put on standby.
At around 1:45 p.m., the fire command said the blaze was being brought under control and cleared some firefighters to go back into service. Mutual aid was also canceled.
