Concord Firefighters Extinguish Brush Blazes At Bektash Temple: Watch
The cause of the fires is unknown, but camping items and debris were found near the burning wooded areas on Wednesday.
CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters, EMTs, and the city’s forestry unit were sent to the Bektash Temple on Pembroke Road on Wednesday for two brush fires.
Just before 5:30 a.m., capital region dispatch began receiving calls about a fire behind the facility and sent units to the area. When they arrived, they found smoke in the area, coming from the woods, about 50 to 100 feet from the parking lot. The fire commander said it was an area of about 100 to 200 square feet. The fire, too, was slow moving, they said.
“We’ll be here for a while,” they said, adding they did not need any other firefighters.

Firefighters deployed two lines and began putting out the fire. Just past 5:45 a.m., the commander said the fire was contained, but they would be there a bit longer, “mopping up.”
About 15 minutes later, dispatch sent Engine 4 to bring more water to the scene after a second fire was located.

Just before 6:30 a.m., both fires were knocked down, and firefighters continued overhauling the areas.
The cause of the fires was unknown at post time, but homeless camp debris was seen in the area. Camps have been in the area in the past. Blustery winds up to 30 mph in the city may have moved a thrown lit cigarette from a vehicle or something else into the woods. But the fire was a far distance from areas of travel.
