Concord Firefighters Sent To 2 Homeless Camp Fires: Watch

Concord firefighters, EMTs, and police were sent to two fires near homeless camps on Interstate 93 behind Market Basket.

CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams extinguished two fires near homeless camps along Interstate 93 on Thursday.

Around 8:45 p.m., capital region fire dispatch received a call from a highway driver that debris was burning along the railroad tracks behind Capital Plaza. The fire commander said it was a large pile of rubble that was burning in an area where firefighters had extinguished a fire previously, according to scanner chatter.

After extinguishing that fire, a second fire was reported in the area of Storrs Street by South Main Street, and the fire commander requested the forestry unit for this fire. The commander asked Concord police to come to the scene since a homeless camper became upset when firefighters arrived in the area.

“We had an individual, we thought, who was quite agitated,” they said. “He has walked off. So we currently have an unattended fire to deal with.”

Around 9 p.m., the firefighters by Market Basket finished with the debris pile fire and headed to the second fire to assist the Concord forestry unit.
