Concord, Goffstown, And Keene Wrestlers Participate In Massachusetts’ Commonwealth Cup
Hundreds of wrestlers from around the Northeast competed in dual tournaments, in both Greco and Freestyle forms, Commonwealth Cup Sunday.
BURLINGTON, MA — Hundreds of wrestlers from around the East Coast participated in the Commonwealth Cup dual tournaments in Massachusetts on Sunday.
The tournaments were in Greco and Freestyle forms, different from middle and high school formats, and had restrictions and tighter point competitions. With Greco, a more global standard, wrestlers cannot grab their opponent below the waist. The wrestlers earn points by takedowns and rolls. A spread of 8 points, which can be earned in two moves, ends the match.
Freestyle has a 10-point spread and allows for more throws and pins. Wrestlers can use their legs to entwine their opponents and roll them to score points.
