The Grange has been raising funds for a flagpole to replace one that is missing or taken down a few years ago. The members had to raise $2,000 per the City of Concord for a flagpole.A majority of the funds came from the family of the late Clinton Patten, who was a long time member of the Grange and passed away suddenly in January. In lieu of flowers, it was suggested friends and family could donate to this project.
The Grange has received several donations from citizens who live on the Heights or former residents of the community.
The Grange will unveil the flagpole and a monument donated by Perry Brother Monuments at 7 p.m.
The Concord VFW Post 1631 and Concord Fire Department will provide color guards for the raising of the flag. The Nevers' Band will play patriotic music while this is being done. The Grange will also have a historical display for people to look at.
If anyone has photo's of the former Grange Hall, please bring them. The Grange will serve everyone with a special Anniversary Cake along with homemade cookies and brownies. In addition, the Grange will also celebrate the 100th birthday of Grange member Arline French, whose birthday is July 17 along with Master Dick Patten. There will be ice cream vendor and hot dog vendor present for those wishing to have something to munch on. The Grange through the efforts of Rodney Huntoon and assistants have compiled a 100 year Cookbook and History that will be available for sale.
The Grange formerly known as Pineconia Grange for 98 years before the name was changed to Concord has provided the Heights with many projects and still involved with some of them today such as lighting the tree at the intersection of Pembroke, Loudon and Airport Roads, Christmas Parade, Recognition Awards, and more.
Please call Dick Patten at 496-2917 for information. The Grange is trying to locate members of the Goodsell family who were members for many years.
