Concord High School JV Wrestlers Are State Champions; Escorted Home By Police: Watch

Crimson Tide JV placed 1st with 107 points against 20 schools at the New Hampshire tournament; Salem placed 2nd, while Timberlane was 3rd.

CONCORD, NH — While it was not easy, and sometimes, they were bloodied and battered, the junior varsity wrestlers of Concord beat 20 other high schools to win the 2023 New Hampshire state tournament again Saturday.

The Crimson Tide won with 107 points, while the Blue Devils of Salem placed second with 79. The Owls of Timberlane Regional placed third with 70, with other schools far behind the top three.

This is the fourth consecutive year the team has won the state championship.

On Saturday night, the team was escorted by Concord police from Exit 12, down South Main Street, and to Concord High School.

Nicholas Zeras, in a note to the students, congratulated them on a great season.

“Enjoy this,” he said. “I’m extremely proud and grateful for being your coach.”

Three Concord wrestlers placed first — Jaxon Carter, Devon Farwell, and Wayne Sakakeeny of Concord, while several wrestlers racked up points by winning matches for the school in their perspective weight divisions.

Coach Ham Munnell also congratulated the team and thanked coaches Zeras, Dan Breen, Troy Colby, and George Tarwo for their work this season. He said the win was “a team effort,” and it was “very motivating” to the varsity program.

Several varsity wrestlers were at the meet to cheer on their teammates. The varsity team has its state meet in Londonderry on Feb. 18.
