Concord Lawyer Charged with Prostitution in Salem

A Concord lawyer was arrested Tuesday evening and charged with prostitution-related offenses.

Richard Mooney, 51, of White Rock Road in Bow, turned himself in at Salem Police headquarters at 6:11 p.m. on July 12, on charges of prostitution and related offenses and hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Salem Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation.

"We're looking at various areas in town that lend themselves to activities with drugs and prostitution," Patten said.

On Wednesday the Lawrence, Mass., Eagle-Tribune reported that Salem police received a tip prostitutes were providing "sexual services" at the Red Roof Inn and another hotel, leading to the warrant for Mooney's arrest.

Mooney was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail, according to the Salem arrest log for Tuesday.

The paper reported Mooney is a Concord lawyer and a woman told police she performed sexual acts on a man later identified to be Mooney. When contacted by the paper, Mooney reportedly said he was innocent.

Patten said more information on the case would be made available in an affidavit on Thursday.
