Concord Man Arrested After Jumping Off Loudon Road Bridge

Details of the case still unclear.

An attempt to cool off, pull off a stunt, or injure oneself has landed one Concord man in jail today after he reportedly jumped off the Loudon Road Bridge into the .

Clifford Avery, of Concord, 43, was arrested on July 3, and charged with disorderly conduct after the jump, according to a watch commander. Avery also reportedly had two outstanding warrants.

At a little past 1:30 p.m., and rescue teams, along with four officers, were called to near the for a report of a river jumper. Upon arrival, they found the man to be uninjured after reportedly swimming to shore after the jump. He came out of the water near the boat landing on the eastern side of the river.

Details of the case are a bit sketchy at this time but Avery was seen screaming obscenities and denying that he was attempting to commit suicide while pulling away from officers after he was handcuffed and told to stand against a patrol car. Eventually, he calmed down and officers placed him in the patrol car and transported him to the Concord Police Department headquarters.

“He’s in the jail cell drying off, waiting for the bail commissioner,” noted the watch commander.
