Concord Man Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting His Father

Police: Scuffled ensued over apartment guest; blood reportedly found on a floor.

A Concord man was arraigned last week on charges that he assaulted his father and wouldn’t let him out of his apartment.

David Mattil, 44, of Concord, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. on May 3, and charged with false imprisonment and simple assault (personal weapons).

Officers were called to North State Street for a report of an assault between a father and son, according to a Concord Police arrest report. When they arrived, the parties were already separated, and officers began to try and figure out what happened.

According to the report, Mattil stated that on two occasions, his father, who lived in an apartment next door to his, poked his head into his place to complain about a friend that Mattil had in his apartment. On the second time, according to Mattil, his father reportedly returned to grab a key to the building. A scuffle then ensued between Mattil and his father. Mattil alleged that he was pushed into a door and was hit in the head with a decorative box.

“While speaking with David, I observed several drops of blood, on the floor,” the officer reported.

Mattil reportedly told the officer he didn’t believe that he was bleeding.

Another witness reported hearing a commotion while in the bathroom and observed the altercation when he came out. The witness, the officer reported, “was very vague and appeared to be trying to not give me a straight answer.”

Mattil waived medical attention and the officer wrote that he did not appear to be injured.

An officer then spoke to Mattil’s father and wrote in the report that his hand was bleeding. The father reportedly told the officer that his other son alleged that Mattil’s friend attempted to break into an apartment in the building and he suspected he was involved in thefts in the past. When he came back to the apartment to get his keys, Mattil allegedly “closed the door and stood in front of it,” keeping the father from leaving, he alleged.

The father alleged that Mattil called police and lied to dispatchers that he was beating up his son. The father also alleged that Mattil, while on the phone with dispatchers, grabbed the decorative box and began hitting himself in the head.

The father reported attempting to get out of the apartment and Mattil allegedly pushed the door and caught his father’s hand in the door, which is what caused the bleeding, he said.

The officers spent time running through the witness statements with them again, with the reporting officer writing that Mattil allegedly could not explain the blood on the floor of his apartment. The reporting officer also stated that Mattil allegedly admitted to holding his father in the apartment, waiting for police to arrive, as proof that he was breaking into his apartment.

Based on all the information available, police arrested Mattil. He was later released on $4,000 personal recognizance bail and was arraigned on June 3.
