Concord Man Tased, Stunned at Bus Station

Police allege that Daryl Clough refused to surrender to a felony warrant after arriving in Concord from Florida.

A local man found himself stunned and Tased after allegedly resisting arrest last month at the Concord Coach Lines bus station.

Daryl A. Clough, 41, of Rumford Street in Concord, was arrested at 4:12 p.m. on Jan. 11, 2015, on a felony warrant. He was also charged with resisting arrest or detention, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription, and possession of controlled drugs.

Police received a Concord Regional Crimeline tip that Cough, who was wanted on a Merrimack County Superior Court warrant for violation of probation, would be arriving in Concord that afternoon on a bus from Florida.

An officer waited at the arrival gate at around 2:30 p.m. while another officer checked to see if there were any riders coming from Florida. The clerk stated that there were two busses coming in from Boston in the next hour or so but they were running late.

At just before 3:30 p.m., a Concord Coach pulled in but the suspect, Clough, was not on the bus. At a little past 4 p.m., a Greyhound bus arrived. One person, who wasn’t Clough, got off the bus. The officers spoke to the driver who stated that there was one other man who was supposed to be getting off but hadn’t. The officers asked to check the bus and the driver agreed that they could.

The officers walked down the aisle and allegedly saw Clough pop up in the last seat, push the side window open, and jump off the bus. He hit the ground and started to run north along the east side of the bus station.

“Stop, police,” the officer reportedly yelled. “Daryl Clough, stop, you’re not going to get away.”

Clough, however, allegedly continued to run and turned toward Higgins Place. He then reportedly ran onto Hebert Street, ran behind a house, and then back onto the street.

As other officers arrived, Clough reportedly ran through the woods between Hebert and South Commercial streets and onto the train tracks. He was warned that if he didn’t stop, he’d be Tased. Clough allegedly kept running and was shot with the Taser but it didn’t work since he was wearing a heavy coat. He tripped and officers were able to catch up to him, ordering him to stay down on the ground.

“Clough did not comply and attempted to get back up,” the reporting officer alleged. “(Another officer) then used the Taser and administered a ‘Drive Stun’ to Clough’s lower back.”

Clough allegedly still would not put his hands behind his back so he was stunned again. The officers were than able to pull his arms back and get him into handcuffs, according to the report.

After Clough was taken to headquarters for booking, the officers returned to the bus station to retrieve his items, two duffel bags and a canvas bag. During an inventory search, they allegedly found a marijuana cigarette and a prescription bottle of Ibuprofen tablets that had allegedly been prescribed to another man.

Clough declined bail, was held, and arraigned the next day.

According to the Concord Monitor archives, Clough was convicted of receiving stolen property in 2005. He was arrested in April 2007 on a parole violation after a Penacook bank was robbed by another man and he was in the same hotel room as that man. He was again arrested in April 2008 on a parole violation after a botched shoplifting attempt at Hannaford. In April 2011, he was arrested for being a habitual offender.
