Concord Police Arrest Thornton Man for Assaulting a Baby
Felony second-degree assault, other charges filed.

Concord Police have arrested a Thornton man on an array of charges after allegedly “violently” shaking a baby in Pencook on Oct. 31.
Joshua Hutchins, 22, of Thornton, was arrested on Nov. 1, and charged with felony second-degree assault, two counts of criminal threatening, and single counts of endangering the welfare of a child and simple assault.
According to a police statement, Hutchins allegedly assaulted the mother of the child on Oct. 30, and then the child on Oct. 31.

The child, a 3-month-old, was brought to the Concord Police Department headquarters by a witness in the case. The witness alleged that Hutchins “called and threatened to stab her.” The witness also alleged that Hutchins “later called and threatened to grab the baby from her and kill her.”
Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit at the department, noted that the baby was brought to the hospital “with non-life threatening injuries and is still being evaluated.”

Hutchins will be arraigned later today. The entire case is still under investigation, according to O'Malley.
According to previous press reports, Hutchins was arrested in 2007 in Franklin on a violation of a protective order. No other information is available about this case or the arrest.
