CONCORD, NH — Concord police and fire and rescue teams were sent to Black Hill Road for a report of a stabbing on Tuesday.

Around 6 p.m., officers were called to the homeless camp in the area of the former Concord Drive-In location off Manchester Street. Dispatch reported a large fight in the camp, with one man being stabbed in the back, and bleeding heavily.

Dispatch received “multiple calls” and reported about a dozen people were involved in the fight — with some wielding machetes.

“There was a lot of blood,” one caller told dispatch.

Officers asked dispatch to tell the campers to help bring the stabbing victim to the gate. The man was carried out of the camp by other campers to awaiting firefighters. The man, who was in his late 30s, was taken from the area by Concord EMTs.

After conducting interviews, police were able to get the names of two possible suspects, both with prior criminal histories and known to police. One, dispatch said, might be in possession of a firearm. One also reportedly rode away from the camp on his bicycle, dispatch said.

A description of the two men was given to other officers.

Police later learned the incident occurred when one or more campers used a knife to cut up another person’s tent, according to scanner chatter. Officers sealed off the tent to gather evidence while others came to the area to assist. Later, they reported finding the weapon, one officer told dispatch.

Other officers began searching the city, including neighborhoods of the South End, and prior addresses known to the suspects to see if they can be found. Police also held a stakeout outside of one home where one of the suspects had previously lived, according to scanner chatter.
