Concord Police Investigating Gun Threat Incident At City Garage

A man was accused of flashing a gun from his waistband inside Storrs Street Garage; cops were also sent to Penacook for another incident.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police overnight Saturday had to address two possible gun threat issues in different parts of the city.

Around 1:30 a.m., police dispatch began receiving calls about a threat incident on the second level of the Storrs Street Garage on Storrs Street. The caller told dispatch a man had a gun in his waistband and was flashing it in a threatening manner.

Dispatch eyed security cameras in the garage and reported to police that the suspect, who was not wearing a shirt and had tattoos, was heading to the top level of the garage. As officers arrived, dispatch told them the suspect was walking down the stairs to the lower levels. Officers were stationed around the garage and then headed inside.

Dispatch told them the suspect was now with a woman near the first-floor elevator. The dispatcher said she could not see a firearm.

Screaming could be heard as the officers ran checks on the people and vehicles in the garage.

One person appeared to be taken into custody later. It is unknown at post time if they were connected to the initial incident or something else.

Dispatch told officers witnesses to the incident were at the Cumberland Farms, while an officer said another party had headed to the McDonald’s Restaurant on South Main Street. More names were collected from witnesses, according to scanner chatter. An officer went to McDonald’s but was unable to find the vehicle. Police were also searching for a silver Audi sedan with three or four people inside, an officer said.

While investigating the gun threat incident, dispatch received a call about a man in Penacook who was distraught, in possession of a gun, and threatening “suicide-by-cop.” Officers then headed to High Street to investigate the incident.

The dispatcher claimed the man said he would be roaming in the area and, when police found him, they would need to “shoot me in the back.” The man, who previously lived in Boscawen but was believed to be living in Massachusetts now, had priors including resisting arrest and drug charges several years ago, a watch commander warned officers.

Officers went to High Street, with long-arm rifles deployed and, around 2:30 a.m., were able to locate the man. The man agreed to be taken to Concord Hospital for a mental evaluation before 3 a.m.
