Concord Police Investigating Infant Death on Penacook Street
Breaking: Limited information is available due to an ongoing investigation; police say the public is no immediate danger.

CONCORD, NH — The Concord Police Department has confirmed that it is investigating the death of an infant on Aug. 1, 2016, on Penacook Street in Penacook. Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit, confirmed that police and EMTs were sent to the address for a report of an infant in distress at around 11:45 a.m. but wouldn’t comment specifically on the death of the child or the investigation.
“We’re investigating it,” he said, adding, “there’s no immediate danger to the public. More information may be released as it becomes available.”
While there was speculation about the case throughout the day, O’Malley added when children die, whether there is suspicion of a crime or it is accidental, especially in an out of care incident, police follow the same investigatory procedures, including performing an autopsy by the state’s medical examiner.

A number of Penacook residents reported that as many as five police cruisers and a crime scene truck were at the address yesterday afternoon. Yellow tape surrounds an area of the yard and around an older camper that is on the property.
O’Malley confirmed that there was a police presence at the home – which is located near Hoyl Brook and abutting the Merrimack Valley High School compound – during the evening and again today.
