Concord School Board Candidate Filing Begins Sept. 5
Three, three-year district seats open up this year.

The filing period for candidates interested in serving on the Concord School Board will open at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, according to a statement from Roger Phillips, the district’s clerk.
Candidates are needed for three seats, one for each voting district: District A, which covers Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4, in the north and central part of the city; District B, which represents voters in Wards 5, 6, and 7, the West and South Ends, and District C, for residents in Wards 8, 9, and 10, East Concord and the Heights.
This election marks the second year that board members, essentially advisory members for the district, will be elected by a district configuration after city voters approved a new process of electing board members in 2011, after lengthy and controversial charter commission process.

In 2015, three at-large (citywide) candidates will run for three seats.
Registered Concord voters interested in serving can file at Phillips’ office, 104 Pleasant St. (use the Pine Street entrance), from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays.

The filing period closes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15.
Phillips noted that interested candidates can call the Concord School District superintendent’s office about a future informational session that will be hosted by current Concord School Board members.
Members that will see their seats vacated this year include Barbara Higgins, who was elected at-large in 2011; Thomas Croteau, who was elected in 2012 to fill out the remaining years of Jack Dunn’s seat after he was hired to be the district’s business administrator; and Patrick Taylor, who was appointed to fill out the rest of Nick Metalious’ term, after he resigned earlier this year.
Croteau said in an email on Aug. 25, that he planned on running again (he lives in District A). A day later, Higgins confirmed she would be running again (she lives in District B).
Taylor also lives in District B but did not return an email at post time about whether or not he planned on running.
Currently, District C does not have any representation.
