Concord Varsity Wrestlers Take 4 Wins At ‘Super Quad’ Saturday

Exeter, Salem win; Souhegan ties for 1st, Merrimack 3rd, Winnacunnet 5th in Londonderry Holiday Tournament; dozens meet at Nor'easter.

CONCORD, NH — Saturday was a busy day for wrestlers at several schools as Concord hosted a “super quad” at the high school, Londonderry hosted its holiday tourney, and Hollis held the Nor’easter Invitational.

The Crimson Tide varsity team won big at its Super Quad, besting Exeter High School, Kingswood Regional High School of Wolfeboro, Winnisquam Regional High School of Tilton, and Massabesic High School in Waterboro, Maine. The Tide is now 6-0.

Against Exeter, Concord won 40 to 6, with Biswas Darji beating Ryder Marchand in the 106 by fall, Griffin Norwalt beating Ian Cottill at 126 by fall, Levi Madison beating Nicholas Darby 14-5 in the 138, Jaxon Carter beating Martin Benson by fall in the 144, and Maximus Chung besting Caden Ponticello of Exeter by fall in the 150. Hudson Berry of Exeter won in the 113 weight category by forfeit, while Cullen Burke at 120 and Hunter Richard at 132 also won by forfeit for Concord.

Concord beat Kingston 64 to 6, with Carter Buxton at 113, Burke, and Norwalt winning by forfeit. Richard, Sawyer McCready, Jeydon Wilson, Anthony Gualtieri, Devon Farwell, and Wayne Gutierrez Sakakeeny all won by falls. Carter bested his opponent by decision, 13 to 2. Caelum Forgy of Kingswood, in the 175 weight category, beat Carl Sirrianna by fall.

Winnisquam won three matches, one by forfeit, but Concord took the meet, 58 to 18. Darji, Burke, Norwalt, Richard, Sirrianna, Isiah Puckett in the 190 category, Farwell, and Gutierrez Sakakeeny all won by falls. Aiden Sufert at 113 for Winnisquam won by forfeit, Henry Osmer beat Carter by fall, and David Jean against Wilson by fall. Madison won 3 to 0, Chung won 12 to 0, and Gualtieri won 9 to 2.

Massabesic gave Concord several competitive matches, but the Tide pulled out the win, 42 to 28. Darji, Burke, Norwalt, Richard, Chung, McCready, Puckett, Farwell, and Gutierrez Sakakeeny all won for Concord.

Exeter Varsity Beats Kingswood

Exeter wrestlers were able to beat Kingswood, 40 to 29. Both schools scored several wins based on forfeits. Darby of Exeter beat Brady Call of Kingswood by a fall, while Martin Benson beat Isaac Gagnon, who won 12 to 4. Ponticello beat Jackson Saxby by fall. Noah Thomas of Exeter beat Ryan Greenwaldt by fall. One point was deducted from Kingswood due to misconduct by Greenwaldt.

The team, however, lost to Winnisquam, 54 to 30. Wins for Exeter were posted by Marchand, Berry, Darby, Ponticello, and Thomas by falls.

Salem Varsity Takes 2

Salem High School also beat Winnisquam, 57 to 23. John Blocksidge in the 106, Trevor O’Brien in the 113, Lukas Sanchez in the 120, Alex Lenfest in the 132, Reilly O’Brien in the 150, Adrian Loria Alicea in the 165, Aidan Shikrallah in the 175, and Zander Wood in the 215 all won by falls. Henry Griffin, in the 157, won his match, 11 to 9.

The Blue Devils also beat Kingswood, 45 to 18, with Blocksidge and Trevor O’Brien winning by forfeit. Jewry Nunez, Reilly O’Brien, Mark Leone in the 190, Wood, and Liam Sweeney in the 285, all won by falls. Griffin won by decision, 10 to 7.

Junior varsity wrestlers from Bow, Concord, Exeter, Goffstown, Keen, Kingswood, Massabesic, Salem, Spaulding, and Winnisquam competed at the Super Quad.

In the Londonderry Holiday Tournament, Raymond and Souhegan high schools tied for first with 22 points while Merrimack placed third with 20. Manchester Memorial placed fourth with 18, West, White Mountain Regional, and Winnacunnet all tied for fifth. Kearsarge Regional placed eighth, Londonderry came in ninth, and Central came in 10th.

In the 106 class, Ethan Gham of Winnacunnet placed third.

In the 113, Carter Kuhn placed second for Portsmouth.

Ben Smiley placed third in the 120 for Souhegan.

Andrew Nilly of Portsmouth placed fourth in the 126.

Chase Knuckles placed first for Souhegan and Caleb Holden of Londonderry placed fourth in the 132.

Logan Brown, in the 138, finished second.

Christian Knuckles of Souhegan placed first, Brendon Egan of Londonderry placed second, and Dominic Young of Winnacunnet placed third in the 144.

Manny Perez in the 150 placed second, Elvis Myles of Portsmouth placed third, and Noah Denis of Souhegan placed fourth.

In the 157, Sam Albert of Souhegan placed fourth.

David Pento Jr. of Londonderry came in first, while Gabe Holt came in second for Souhegan in the 175.

Elijah Josey of Portsmouth came in first in the 190, Patrick O’Connor came in second and Zachary Lavy in Winnacunnet came in fourth.

In the 215, Mason Foster came in fourth for Portsmouth.

Patrick Vachon came in fourth for Manchester Memorial in the 285 category.

Nor’easter Invitational

Two dozen schools participated in the 2023 Nor’easter Invitational in Hollis on Saturday.

Bedford placed first with 199.5 points. Bow came in fourth with 141, Bishop Guertin placed fifth with 132, and Windham came in sixth at 127. Goffstown came in eighth, Hollis Brookline ninth, and Nashua South 10th. Nashua North placed 14th, Merrimack 15th, and Hopkinton 19th.

In the 106, Austin Steinruck of Bishop Guertin came in second, while Jackson Ella came in sixth.

In the 113, Jaron Todisco Coulon of Bow placed second, while Robert Signir of Nashua South placed sixth.

In the 120, Adler Moura of Bow placed first, Henry Palmer of Windam came in second, and Jack Kaler of Bishop Guertin came in third.

Alex Jennings of Bedford placed third, while Liam McGrail placed fourth in the 126.

Nate Pass of Bedford placed second in the 132.

In the 138, Kiaben Kennedy of Bedford came in first, while John Forcier of Bishop Guertin came in second. Grant Descheneaux of Merrimack came in sixth.

Ben Bryne of Nashua South came in first in the 144, while James Algeo of Bishop Guertin came in fourth.

In the 165, Ben McDowell of Bow came in second, while Connor Whitman of Nashua South placed fourth.

William Murphy of Bishop Guertin came in first in the 175, while Joseph McDowell of Bow came in second.

In the 190, Liam Shambo of Windham came in second.

In the 215, Jackson Hall of Bow won, Gavin McConnell of Bedford placed third, and Landon Levesque of Nashua South came in sixth.

Jake Benn of Bedford came in third in the 285.
