Concord Woman Seriously Injured In Snowmobile Crash

BOSCAWEN, NH — A woman from Concord was seriously injured after a snowmobile crash on Sunday.

Around 1 p.m., fire and rescue teams as well as police, county, and New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officials were sent to the Northern Rail Trail for a rider who collided with trees. Initially, Boscawen Fire Department, Boscawen Police Department, a Merrimack County Sherriff’s Deputy, Penacook Rescue, and a conservation officer responded. Concord firefighters arrived a short time later with its UTV unit since the crash was quite far from the nearest road.

Along a trail they found Paula Hendrick, 50, of Concord had collided with trees after becoming overcome by ungroomed snow on the side of the trail.

“Hendrick and her riding party slowed down and yielded to the right for traffic that was traveling in the opposite direction when the incident occurred,” James Cyrs III, a conservative officer, said. “The other group of riders had stopped to let Hendrick’s group continue on when she inadvertently accelerated into the trees, fell off of the snowmobile, and slid down a very steep embankment toward the Merrimack River.”

The other riders immediately placed a call to 911 after the incident occurred.

Hendrick was taken to Concord Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Cyrs said “rider inexperience” was considered to be the leading cause of the crash.
