Concord's 'Blue Elves' Deliver Coats To Children: Watch

One hundred coats were donated by the Concord Police Department to children at the Belknap-Merrimack Counties Community Action Program.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police officers delivered 100 winter coats to children in need as a way of giving back to the community via the department's "blue elves" program. The officers delivered the coats to children at the Belknap-Merrimack Counties Community Action Program on Old Loudon Road Tuesday after hearing kids needed coats this winter season. Ryan Howe, a community services officer with the Concord Police Department, said he heard recently from Andy Labrie, a special projects coordinator with Community Action, about the need.

So, the blue elves delivered.

Some of the children were a little surprised by the donations and a few agitated, too, but they calmed down with a quick visit with the department's K-9, Liberty, and some singing, too.

The items were purchased after an anonymous donation was made to the police department, Howe said.

Labrie said Community Action is still in need of other donations including boots, hats, mittens, and jackets for toddlers and teenagers as well as 110 coats for homeless adults. Boots, hats, gloves, hand warmers, insulated underwear for men and women, socks, scarves, and gift cards for McDonald's, Dunkin' Donuts, and gas stations were needed for adults before the cold weather shelter opens on Dec. 15.

Anyone with items to donate can email alabrie@bm-cap.org for more information.
