According to police, Groton Police officers were sent to Boston Road near Forge Village Road at around 4:30 p.m. for a report of an accident with personal injury.

When they arrived, they found Progin allegedly operating under the influence of alcohol during the crash, according to the investigation. He was immediately arrested and held, according to Police Chief Donald Palma Jr.

“This man has continued to act recklessly without care or concern for himself and the safety of other drivers on the road,” Palma said in a statement. “This investigation is open and ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.”

Police did not release the exact kind of drug that Progin was allegedly caught with but the designation would appear to be an opiate-based prescription drug, according to Massachusetts state law.

Progin, who was convicted of sexual assault in October 1990, and once was a registered sex offender in New Hampshire, was scheduled to be arraigned in Ayer District Court on Monday. He was also reportedly convicted of indecent assault and battery and has a criminal history out of Worcester County in Massachusetts, according to his online footprint. Progin’s license was revoked in October 2014 by the NH DMV for DWI.
