Conway Woman Charged with Willful Concealment

Police allege that Nicole McKinnon attempted to steal nearly $590 worth of items from Walmart.

Call this the case of alleged concealment in a colorful wig.

This is Nicole K. McKinnon, 28, of Washington Street in Conway, who was arrested at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1, on a willful concealment charge.

According to an arrest report, an officer was sent to the Walmart on Loudon Road for a woman they believed was shoplifting.

A store employee reported that the woman was wearing a colorful wig and had just come back into the store with a man. The employee pointed out the woman who had baby clothes in her hands.

The officer went to speak to the woman who “seemed surprised and nervous” that the officer was speaking with her. The officer asked for an ID but she reportedly stated that she didn’t have one and gave the name “Heather MacDonald” to the officer, a name dispatch was unable to find in their computer system. She also reportedly changed her home address from Farmington to Ossipee.

“It appeared that the female may not have been telling me the truth,” the officer wrote.

The store employee alleged that the woman was cutting the tags off items and putting them in various locations around the store. As employees followed the woman, she kept going to different exits, and “appeared to change her plan of exit to avoid being confronted.”

The officer went back to the woman and asked if she lied about her name and she allegedly said she had. When asked if she had scissors, she reportedly replied, “As a matter of fact, I do.” The two then went to speak with employees and the woman allegedly gave a second false name, “Kelly Smith.”

Another officer, meanwhile, had arrived at the scene and spoken to the man, who stated that her name was really Nicole McKinnon. The reporting officer went to the woman again and she allegedly confirmed that it was her name and she was arrested. She later reportedly gave a statement to the officer.

When speaking with a bail commissioner, she allegedly stated, “All I did was cut the tags off,” several times.

The total value of the items that McKinnon cut the tags off was more than $587, according to the report.

According to the Conway Daily Sun, McKinnon was arrested in May for failing to appear on a shoplifting charge. In 2013, she was arrested for simple assault but the charge was later dropped.
